Managed IT Makes Sense
With today’s economic downturn, IT budgets have been slashed
in most companies. But bear in mind that businesses still depend
heavily on IT, and work increases as resources diminish. This can bring
about low morale for employees and lost productivity – and ultimately
customer satisfaction suffers. While IT Managed Services may cost more
in the beginning, lost productivity and lost customers cost a lot more.
Especially in recent years, the business world has become
increasingly dependent on IT. Almost all businesses rely on some sort
of technology. With this increased use of IT comes an increase in
problems and outages – and even loss of data – all of which result in
loss of productivity.
The question is, are you an expert in IT? Most entrepreneurs
aren’t. If you want to concentrate on your company’s core competencies
without having to worry about your IT infrastructure, outsource your IT
services to a reputable Managed Services provider.
Managed Services providers are experts in the field of technology,
and bring knowledge and experience in the latest solutions to your
business. And taking advantage of scale of economies, the Managed
Services model gives you access to affordable state-of-the-art
technologies previously only available to large enterprises.
UPS Audible Alarms
The various models in the Smart-UPS product line all have the
same audible alarms, and these audible alarms will be accompanied by a
visual alarm (LED) as well. Please see your Smart-UPS User's Manual for
information on the UPS's visual indicators (LEDs).
An additional sound that the Smart-UPS may produce is a clicking
sound. The Smart-UPS will make a clicking sound when the UPS is
enabling AVR Boost or AVR Trim. AVR Boost is when the UPS uses the
internal transformer to increase input voltage which may be too low;
AVR Trim is when the UPS uses the internal transformer to decrease
input voltage which may be too high. When the UPS switches to use this
transformer, an internal relay makes a clicking sound. This is normal
operation of the UPS reacting to too-high, or too-low voltage
How to Increase Laptop Battery Life
If you travel often and work while traveling, you can use a
longer battery life. It makes no sense bringing your laptop on a trip
if you cannot use it for lack of power. It is always a wise idea to
bring a spare battery with you. But it is way better to practice
energy-saving habits to prolong the life of your laptop battery. Here
are some of them.
Lower the brightness of the LCD screen when using your laptop.
Laptops consume a lot of energy maintaining bright screen levels. If
you want more power for computing tasks, you will have to make do with
a darker screen. Make sure that you can still comfortably read the text
on your screen when adjusting the brightness of the display.
When you are not using your laptop, turn it off or place it in
sleep or hibernate mode. There is a quick button on your laptop that
you can press to achieve a desired state of activity. Simply closing
the lid of some laptop models can place the units in standby mode.
Computer peripherals such as mice, external hard disk drives and
external optical drives need electricity to run. When you are done
using these equipment, unplug them from the system so they will no
longer drain battery power. Laptops have a touchpad so you can actually
make do without a mouse.
Playing games, listening to music, or watching videos will deplete
your laptop battery fast. Concentrate on the tasks for which you
brought your laptop with you and try not to get distracted by
unnecessary applications that will add an extra load on your laptop
battery. Try not to run too many applications at one time too. Your
laptop computer will need to work harder to run several applications at
one than if you run only a few applications at a time. Stick to
important tasks and you will have more time to finish them.
Next time you travel and bring your laptop with you, try out these tips and watch your laptop battery go an extra mile.
